Assessment & Timeline

Hume Coal proposes the development of an underground mine to extract metallurgical and industrial coal, essential raw materials for steel, cement production and power.

Any development that is a state significant development is identified in the State and Regional Development State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP). Under this SEPP mining and extraction operations are identified as State Significant Developments (SSD).

The Hume Coal Project requires approval under Part 4, Division 4.1 of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act). As part of the approval process the company must prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The EIS for the Hume Coal Project and Berrima Rail Project have been lodged with the NSW government.

All documents lodged with the DP&E in relation to the Hume Coal Project can be viewed on NSW Major Projects Website
