Southern Highland residents and businesses wanting information on more than 300 jobs and supplier opportunities with Hume Coal attended an information session at the property Mereworth on Saturday.
The morning information session for job-seekers outlined the requirements and recruitment processes for the 300 full-time jobs to be created if the Hume Coal Project is approved.
In the afternoon local businesses learned of supply and contract opportunities for both construction and operation of the underground mine.
Hume Coal spokesman Ben Fitzsimmons said over 60 people attended. “Some wanted a better understanding of what the Project means in terms of employment, and others were looking at the potential opportunities for their local companies. “
“Being a new mine, many of those attending were surprised to learn about the level of technology and automation used in underground mining these days and how mining roles have evolved from the traditionally more labour intensive roles.”
“Those interested in the future employment opportunities were excited at the prospect of working with new equipment in a brand new mining operation which will be an industry leader in underground mining technologies and techniques.”
