What is the Hume Project?
Hume Coal Pty Limited, a joint initiative of POSCO and Cockatoo Coal (Cockatoo), hold Exploration Authorisation 349, which covers an area of 115 km2 in the Southern Highlands of NSW, and is known as the “Hume Project”. The Hume Exploration Authorisation potentially allows exploration activities in an area west of Moss Vale and incorporates parts of the Belanglo State Forest. Authorisation for exploration in the Hume Project area was first granted in 1967, and various exploration programs have been undertaken since then.
On 24 December 2010, Exploration Authorisation 349 was acquired from the former lease holder.
At this stage no form of mining process has been decided and should exploration indicate a viable resource then a number of factors including Government approvals and environmental impact will inform this decision.
Access Agreements for Mineral Exploration
No work will commence on private property until a Land Access Agreement has been obtained. This is a formal contract between Hume Coal and the landowner(s) which sets out conditions to be adhered to in carrying out activities on the property.
Any landowners within the Hume Exploration Authorisation who would be interested in negotiating a Landowner Access Agreement are encouraged to contact the Hume Community Liaison Officer
