Community Consultation
We are committed to engaging with the community through ongoing consultation. Community Consultation is a two-way communication process which aims to give the Southern Highlands community opportunities to contribute to decisions which affect them. For the Hume exploration project, the intention is to have an open to facilitate the sharing of ideas and concerns, in a mutually respectful way.
The community has a range of experiences and views which are valued by Hume Coal. Acknowledging that community has a right to have informed input into the project will improve the relationship between Hume Coal and the community.
Mutual respect is the foundation principle for effective consultation.

How can I provide feedback on or get more information about the Hume Coal Project?
The Hume Coal Project has a project team based in Moss Vale.
Our Community Liaison Team is available to answer any of your questions about the Hume Coal Project. The aim is to have an effective process to facilitate the sharing of ideas and concerns and facilitate community involvement throughout the life of the project. How will Cockatoo Coal keep the community informed?
The Community Liaison Team is committed to effective participation with all our projects and strives to improve our engagement with the communities in which we operate. We are committed to establishing a consultation process that is inclusive and respectful. Engaging with the community must continue through the life of our projects
The Community Liaison Team will be the first point of contact for most stakeholders and will facilitate meetings, events and project updates. The team currently have a number of ways of informing the community, some of which include:
- Webpage Updates
A dedicated website will provide the community an easy and user friendly system to access information about the projects. It will also be used as a tool for collecting feedback and input, and to publicise upcoming events and project updates.
- Fact Sheets
There are a number of fact sheets available on subjects ranging from Water, Project Timeline, Community, and Drilling. These fact sheets are designed to provide information about the project. For more information about our fact sheets click here.
- Information Days
Regular community information days will be held throughout the region. The sessions are intended to provide project updates by key staff in our team.
It is an opportunity to meet the team responsible for the projects and answer any questions you may have. Details about information days will be posted on our website www.humecoal.com.au and publicised through the newspaper.
- Newsletters
Newsletters will provide the community with a regular source of information on the progress of work underway and will include an opportunity for the community to provide feedback.
- Emails
Project updates will be provided to interested community members and distributed via email. This is a way of distributing project information, letters, newsletters to keep up to date about important project updates. To subscribe to our mailing list click here.
Cockatoo Coal in the Community
We recognise that it is important to be a part of the communities in which we operate. This is achieved through the following:
